Music Review: Mahogany Jones ft. Sean C. Johnson & Young Josh
Happy August! We are headed into the season finale of summer but not before Mahogany Jones drops some more summer heat on us!
Today, Detroit poet and rapper Mahogany Jones gave us the visuals to her latest single "Gold." The single comes off her 2016 album Sugar Water.
Jones has become one of my favorite Detroit artists. Her delivery is impeccable and her words have so much meaning to them. I love this single because not only is it a great bop but it also is a reminder about self-worth and misrepresenting lure of materialistic things. I've seen Jones perform this song live and you can tell she means every word she says because her passion exudes in her performance.
I feel like we have been waiting for this video for months now. The social activist first posted hints about the video way back in February!
But I guess all good things comes to those who wait! Director Will Thomas of Space Cherry Films definitely took his time with this one. I think he beautifully captured Mahogany's message! I also love, love, love the makeup! I may be reaching but I think Mahogany dipped and draped in gold symbolizes that even with all of this on, you are still much more valuable than your possessions! Like I said, I might be reaching but check out the video yourself and be sure to check out the entire album on iTunes!
